Lips locked, rain pouring down around them, molten lava glowing and flowing in the background—it’s not hard to see why this photo by Dallas Nagata White has been dubbed “The Hottest Kiss in the World” by some.

Her most popular photo ever, this beautiful image is the subject of a new video by Seeker Stories, in which the YouTube channel dedicated to “tak[ing] a deep look at some of the world’s most unique individuals, places, and cultures,” reveals the story behind the viral sensation:

The Story

The photo features Dallas and her husband Ed, who are both professional photographers based out of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Funny enough, the initial plan for this jaunt to Kalapana, says Ed, was not to capture a passionate kiss in the rain. This was supposed to be a landscape photo excursion… but then it started raining.

Check out the video above or read the post on Dallas’ website to find out how they turned what might have seemed like a “missed opportunity” into their most popular photo ever—a self-portrait for the ages, and “The Hottest Kiss in the World”
