On March 5th, 1910 a great man was born. You might not know about him, but you’ve almost certainly enjoyed the fruits of his labor… or rather the noodles of his labor. We’re talking, of course, about Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant Ramen noodles who would have turned 105 today had he not passed away in 2007.
It took Ando many months of late nights and trial & error to perfect the instant noodle, but it’s safe to say that, in the end, he made a delicious contribution to our world. His instant version of the popular noodle dish was a first step towards ending world hunger… not to mention getting many of us through those weekends in college when we didn’t have the budget for gas, alcohol, AND food.
We’d love to pay our respects in some small way, and so we’ve curated a collection of 25 photos of ramen and people enjoying it that we think would have made him smile today. Happy Birthday Mr. Ando!
In case you didn’t know, today is also World Book Day, so be sure to either curl up with or take great pictures of a great book and some hot ramen tonight — celebrate both of these occasions right!
