Last week we shared the story of 16-year-old Siddhant Sahu who captures amazing macro photos using next to no gear. It was inspirational, and we’re excited to watch Siddhant grow as a photographer.

But if you’re wondering what Siddhant’s portfolio will evolve into in a few years once he’s built up his gear and skill set a bit more, you don’t actually have to wait. All you have to do is visit the 500px account of talented macro photographer Can Tunçer.

Can’s gear is a bit more impressive than our humble young Siddhant’s reversed kit lens, although he still shoots with a very accessible Canon 60D body, which can be had for just $650 on B&H.

But, of course, the camera body has very little to do with why macro photography is expensive… in macro, it’s all about the glass. Which brings us to the eye-popping trio of lenses that Can uses to capture his incredible ‘world of detail.’

1. Canon MP-E 65mm F / 2.8 1-5x Macro | Retail Price: $1,050
2. Canon EF 100mm F / 2.8L Macro IS USM | Retail Price: $900
3. Sigma 150mm F / 2.8 EX DG HSM APO Macro | Retail Price: $1,100

It’s clear Can has invested in some amazing glass, and it shows in his images—because while you can definitely still take amazing macro photos with limited gear, there’s a reason people still buy macro glass in the $1,000 range.

It’s this glass, combined with a hefty amount of skill earned over years of practice, that allows Can to capture images that are incredibly sharp, sometimes unbelievably close, and shockingly detailed.

But don’t take our word for it, here’s a look at some of our favorite images from his impressive 500px profile.
