On November 28th, 500px and AccessNow hosted Toronto’s first accessible photowalk, focused on bringing together all Toronto photo enthusiasts for a day of photography and fun, no matter what mobility challenges they face.
Together with AccessNow and its founder, Maayan Ziv, the event brought Toronto’s accessibility community to the streets of Toronto.
AccessNow’s mission is to map all the world’s accessible places. Maayan Ziv is herself a fashion and street photographer. A graduate from Ryerson University with a BA in Radio and Television Arts, Maayan has been recognized with a Queens Diamond Jubilee medal for raising awareness for disabilities.
She was joined by two other hosts—Julian Stein, and 500px co-founder Evgeny Tchebotarev—and three wonderful sponsors—Fujifilm Canada, Henry’s Camera, and Ryerson DMZ—for a photowalk that highlight the theme of accessibility in Toronto, and left all 50 participants smiling by the end of the day.
Here are a few of our favorite photos from that day:
The multicultural and inclusive nature of Toronto makes it the perfect city to spearhead events like this, where the term photo’walk’ itself can be re-defined to be more inclusive, and nobody needs to be left out. This was the first, but definitely not the last time 500px and AccessNow will partner on an event like this.
