For the most part, we’re happy to live a life largely in the digital world. Our smartphones, with their startlingly sophisticated cameras, are always at hand so that no memory goes forgotten and the answer to just about every question we might encounter throughout the day is just a few keystrokes away. So it’s with a purposefulness that we have to carve out time to actually work with our hands. Whether it’s discovering a working darkroom and the joy of watching your photography develop in front of your eyes or getting your hands messy cooking a new recipe from scratch instead of ordering delivery through an app, there’s a visceral pleasure in using your hands to connect with the world and ignite a new spark in your work. Wanting to take a closer look at our community’s interpretation of getting creative with handmade and homemade projects even through a digital lens, we found plenty of examples of a crafting culture to share with you all.
We scoured the 500px community for the following striking, colorful, and altogether delightful photography that highlights how one’s perspective can come alive through craft. From cities built of colorful paper to amusement parks fashioned from the pages of an old novel, these examples of paper delicately cut and manipulated into magical scenes are as noteworthy as any other artistic medium. Scroll on for a glimpse into these charming handmade vignettes.
