The King is Gone, but the thrill—the thrill fans felt each time the legendary blues man picked up Lucille—that will live on for decades to come.
Earlier today, news broke that the great BB King passed away at the age of 89. After releasing over 50 albums, winning 15 Grammys, and touring well into his 80s, it seems the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and blues legend finally saw fit to bid the world farewell.
And so, in memory of the man, the myth, and the legend that was BB King, we’ve put together a collection of photographs of King doing what he did best: playing the blues.
On a personal note, as I was listening back over some of King’s live performances this morning, the final stanza of the famous “The Thrill is Gone” struck me as particularly poignant today.
“You know I’m free, free now baby
I’m free from your spell
Oh I’m free, free, free now
I’m free from your spell
And now that it’s all over
All I can do is wish you well”
Farewell Mr. King. Now that it’s all over, may you rest in peace.
