It’s been a great trip. It’s over now, and I’m safely back at the 500px office here in Toronto. But the details are still fresh in my mind. In my previous post, we had just left Glacier National Park to get to Yellowstone National Park. Well, it’s a thing of a beauty. In the last five days of this trip, we’ve visited the Yellowstone National Park and stayed there for two days. Then, I proceeded to go down south until we reached Grand Teton National Park, which is well-known for its Grand Tetons Range and old barns.
In total, we have travelled a bit over 6000 kilometers, covering 500 km a day on average, waking up at 5 a.m., and going to bed no earlier than midnight. In one word—exhausting! Here’s what we saw:
(As with previous posts, all these photos—except the header—are captured on iPhone 5 camera)
Majestic Grand Prismatic Spring, crown jewel of Yellowstone. Recently, the spring became scandalously known for being a place where a Dutch photographer dropped a drone—and was fined $3,200 for it.
Mammoth Hot Springs have been changing, and are very dry at the moment. Not sure whether it’s a permanent change or a temporary one, but nature does seem to be changing very rapidly here at Yellowstone. This is very worrisome to me.
Pretty great clouds and reflections can be found in Yellowstone National Park.
It was cloudy and a bit rainy, but it was a very productive day for shooting—a lot of waterfalls and a lot of rivers for me to try Lee’s Big Stopper to capture some long exposures.
These bison roam wild and free. Great to capture some of them on the iPhone, as it works out pretty great against the background. Tourists seem to adore them too, stopping for every bison they see!
Here’s what I see through Nikkor 600mm f/4.0L that I rented from Borrowlenses.com for a trip. It’s a great place to try this super telephoto lens and get some pretty striking close-ups of bisons.
Yellowstone has plenty of waterfalls, making a cloudy day a heaven for photographers.
Street signs in West Yellowstone remind us that we are in a small-town America.
Found this tragic photo on the side of a building in West Yellowstone. There has been a great fire in 1941, so the town had to be rebuilt.
We then travelled to Grand Teton National Park, and stayed in busy Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for a night.
The majestic Grant Teton at sunrise. It’s incredible what a smartphone camera can accomplish these days, if you are in the right spot in the right time. With manual controls and a tripod, I bet you can push the limits of a 2-year-old iPhone even further.
Grand Tetons Range during the sunset.
A sign that meets you on the top of the pass on the way to Jackson Hole. It’s pretty.
And finally, enjoy this classic view of the old barn with Grand Teton in the background. This is what we came here for.
And while the trip is now over, you’ll see some highlights from #500northwest shot on a real camera. This time, a Nikon D810. For a sneak peek and timely updates, go follow me on 500px.
