Hey, it’s me again, Evgeny Tchebotarev, co-founder of 500px. This month, I’ve been on a road trip across Northwest USA, from California to Colorado. Read on for a glimpse of my Road Trip Photo Diary: Day 2. You can also follow our adventure on Instagram, Twitter, or 500px with hashtag #500northwest.
Days begin to blur. Day Two and Day Three began to slowly roll into each other. Or maybe that was lack of sleep. Either way. we have been following the road, and have been driving north. For the sunrise, we woke up before 6 a.m. and went to the Bandon Beach, a beautiful coast with rock formations that remind me of sea lions.
I still tend to take a lot of iPhone pictures, edit them in VSCO Cam, and add frames with InstaFullSize before posting on Instagram and Twitter. I really like that mellow, peaceful look of film colors along with classic white borders.
Our Sunset motel in Bandon with ocean views looked very peaceful in the morning. We paid extra for the view, but checking in at 10 p.m. you don’t see much, so we were pleasantly surprised in the morning.
Waiting for a good light with a pair of trusty Nikon D810 on sturdy tripods. That morning, I tried out a 10-stopper Lee’s Big Stopper for the first time, and still experimenting with it.
On the way to Bandon, we stopped for an amazing sunset that was approaching the ocean line too quickly.
We rented a huge chunk of glass — Nikkor 600mm f/4 from Borrowlenses, but Oregon coasts are not the best use of the lens. We’ll get a lot more out of it in Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.
The colors of the sky and the glass are simply too good to get them right in the photo, but I hope you can smell the salty ocean through these photos.
Even at 6 a.m., we weren’t the first to show up. Another early photographer was already there, well-equipped for some action shots, knee-deep in the ocean waters. Rubber boots are pretty important to get great shot in those salty waters.
We were very lucky to capture a great light in the morning, which made us all happy for the whole day.
We packed up, and headed north, stopping at a few lighthouses on the way. We made our way to our 7 p.m. 500px meetup at Horse Brass Bar with a bunch of really warm-hearted photographers. I will miss all you guys!
Today, we are headed north again. We will be in Seattle either by night or early morning of next day, September 18th.
