These photos are on fire! Well… kind of. The photos themselves aren’t on fire, but the big bundles of steel wool being twirled around in each of them certainly are.

Ever since the first photographer thought to set fire to a bundle of steel wool, spin it around herself, and capture the whole shebang on camera, people have gone crazy for this creative (and slightly dangerous… so be careful) form of light painting.

Most of the time the steel wool is in the frame—a bright yellow disk spurting off sparks like nobody’s business—but as you can see, that’s not always necessary. Letting fire rain down on your (well-protected) subject is another way to capture something spectacular.

However you chose to do it, just make sure you stay safe and have fun. That’s the most important part anyway, right?
