500px Studio aims to help photographers make money doing what they love, but ultimately, it’s about providing opportunities—going beyond commercial gigs to facilitate projects that have a positive, global impact.
Introducing Focused: a new initiative from 500px Studio that highlights critical social issues once every quarter with passionate photographic series.
“We have very creative and highly-skilled photographers that work with us on commercial projects regularly,” said Aneta Filiciak, Director of Business Operations & Strategy for 500px Studio. “We wanted to provide them with opportunities to contribute to projects thats are both creative and socially impactful, utilizing photography to tell stories and raise awareness of social global topics.”
The first Focused series launches Nov. 25, and centres on ending violence against women, to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
The inspiration for the photo series is the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign, which promotes the use of the color orange as a symbol of visibility and participation in the cause.
In support of UNiTE’s 2017 theme, Leave No One Behind – End Violence against Women, 500px Studio is collaborating with 16 photographers from a variety of countries and perspectives around the world to create unique and powerful photo series to raise awareness of the issue.
During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which takes place from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10, 500px Studio will post a daily photo essay on its blog. The photo essays will highlight multiple perspectives on gender-based violence around the world, personal experiences with the issue, as well as expressions of hope for a world free from violence against women and girls.
