Meet Ryan Longnecker

ryancyclops-guesteditorjan2017

“My name is Ryan and I’m a commercial, travel and outdoor photographer based in Los Angeles. In college I studied music and theology. My visual style and trajectory has been affected by both of those fields. I spent a little time working in the dark room in High School but didn’t have an actual interest in photography until I became a photographer for the yearbook during my senior year of college. Now I’d love to work with companies and brands that work to enrich the hurting environment and hurting people. In the meantime, I’d love my work to shift people’s view of the world from a pessimistic one to a hopeful one.”

Q: Who is your favourite photographer and why?
A: There are so many but right now Scott Rickenberger and Lee Jeffries. Lately I’ve been really inspired by Scott’s work because he is looking for artistic painterly elements in his composures rather than just an epic landscape or sports shot. And Lee Jeffries is unparalleled in being able to capture the soul of a person through his photography and editing style.

Q: If you could have dinner with one person (living or deceased), who would this be and why?
A: Probably Walt Disney. He had an uncanny ability to bring the best hopes and imaginations out of people.

“I have been taking photos since I was a little girl. First on film with an old camera from my Dad. Since 2001 I have been in love with digital photography. I love faces and eyes. I always try to show the soul of my model. Currently I have worked on book covers and artwork for a local band.”

Q: Who is your favourite photographer and why?
A: I love the work of James Nachtwey. His work is so meaningful and he is always in the center of his circle. The second one is the German photographer, Martin Neuhof. His work always touches me on the bottom of my heart.

Q: If you could have dinner with one person (living or deceased), who would this be and why?
A: This would be Eddie Vedder. I’d like to tell him how much I love his music and of course he would be a great portrait model.
