Fear kills creativity. For a photographer-in-training — and make no mistake, we’re all perpetually photographers-in-training — nothing will destroy your photographic dreams and aspirations more insidiously.
In the video below, one of my favorite photography educators in the world, Mr. Mike Browne, shares a short inspirational message about this exact subject that I’m convinced every photographer needs to see, bookmark, and watch at least once per month.
“Success is the ability to go from failure to failure, without a loss of enthusiasm”
– Sir Winston Churchill
Don’t let fear derail you. If you find yourself waiting on that next lens, that next lesson, that next “perfect” day for shooting, stop waiting, get out there, and SHOOT. And then, when you get home and are tempted to let those photos wallow on your memory card, square your shoulders and upload your favorites to your 500px account.
Let’s build a community of fearless photographers on 500px. Photographers who know that success means going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm; who take the words of iconic photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt to heart: “When I have a camera in my hand, I know no fear.”
