Running. Paddleboarding. Rock climbing. Yoga. Swimming. And that’s just the beginning. For our Personal Fitness Photo Quest, you submitted incredible images that captured the essence of living an active lifestyle!
The Personal Fitness Photo Quest received many great submissions, but Morten Byskov’s photo “Running in the Desert” stood out because it captures action from a unique angle. Since the subject is running away from the camera towards the sun, the emphasis is on challenge and perseverance—two universal themes that everyone can relate to. The combination of lighting and color—golden sand against a blue sky—also helps make this a winning photo:
Byskov gives us the story behind the photo: “While visiting a friend in the United Arab Emirates, we enjoyed a late afternoon picnic dinner in the desert on the outskirts of Al Ain. Thrilled to be in the desert, I came up with various fun scenarios to shoot. The shot of Andrew came about as he is an active runner. I was shooting a Fujifilm X-T1 at 8 frames per second as Andrew patiently ran up the hill two or three times with me close behind. Shooting aperture priority, I chose f/11 to increase depth of field and manually pre-focused. The lens choice was a Fujifilm XF 14mm f/2.8.”
Byskov also gave us some insight into his photography background: “My passion for photography started in high school in Denmark, sharing photos with my classmates of school trips to Prague and Vienna. I moved to Canada and have had a photography business, www.mfoto.ca, in Vernon, BC, Canada since 2002, focused on commercial, portrait, wedding and lifestyle photography. In November 2015, my wife and I set out on a journey to pursue travel photography full time.” Follow him on 500px!
