Color, symmetry, and composition are just some of the great elements you can focus on when taking photos of reflections. For our recent Quest, we asked you to submit your best photos of reflections, and the results were stunning.
The winning image was Joan Gamell’s “Pyramid in a puddle.”
Meet the photographer: “I picked up photography early in my childhood—I was always snapping pictures with several compact film cameras—but it was not until my teens, in 2004, when I started learning the manual settings and experimenting with them, thanks to my dad’s Nikon D70. I’ve been self-learning photography since then.”
Joan gave us the story behind the photo: “I took this picture in Hoatling Pl., a small alleyway in San Francisco right in front of the Transamerica Pyramid building. It just rained a couple of hours before, and I noticed the reflection in the puddle by chance. Thankfully, I had my camera at hand. Post-production was rotating the shot and adding some contrast.”
